Gallery District Art Walks

Santa Fe has so many art galleries, that shops clustered in various locations sponsor evening Art Walks on different days of the month. On Art Walk Fridays, galleries typically stay open until 7:00 PM and some provide refreshments. Individual galleries in other districts may have openings on those same Fridays and also will be open until 7:00 PM. Check Pasatiempo or The Reporter for a complete listing.

Every First Friday - Gala Arts District (Lincoln Avenue between the Plaza and Marcy Street) and West Palace Arts District (Palace Avenue west of the Plaza)

Every Fourth Friday - Canyon Road Gallery District (between Paseo de Peralta and East Palace Avenue)

Every Last Friday - Railyard (Paseo de Peralta and Guadalupe)

Silver Sun

"After taking thousands of photos, I have recently realized that I simply love to capture moments of happiness.
Maybe it’s because I am at a happy moment of my life… I am starting to feel a little more comfortable living in the US, away from my home country and freed from stressful office work. I decided to make my passion for photography my new profession and I now have this photo show at Silver Sun to share my images with others. After all, a happy soul must take better happy photos.
The positive power of happy images carries joy throughout my whole image creation process: from the start (as my heart jumps finding exciting moments or pretty places where sunlight dances) to editing to the final printing, I often have a smile on my face working on those images.
I hope my viewers will experience similar warmth and fun feelings from this show.
I was born and raised in Japan. I spent my twenties working in international marketing for a manufacturing company in Tokyo. My hobby at that time was to swim in the ocean, and I bought a waterproof point and shoot camera to take with me underwater. Soon photography became my hobby and I won a few awards with my photos. It was after moving to the US in 2008 that I became a serious photographer. I feel destined that my life brought me to live in Santa Fe in 2010. Since my arrival here I have been closely involved with Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and I continue to get inspiration from the beauty of Santa Fe and its great art community." - Yuko Hirao, 2012

This unique show combines abstract paintings by Francis Livingston and antique Navajo textiles of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The boldly patterned Navajo weavings were great abstract art made even before that term was widely used, and this show reveals their affinity with contemporary painting made more than a century later.
